It seems like another week is going to end with no Express Entry draw, with the month of May yet to debut a round of invitations.
The last Express Entry draw was announced on April 24, which targeted Francophones with a cutoff score of 410 and on April 23, a general draw declared a cutoff score of 529.
In general, some hope was being built for the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cutoff to drop from an all-time high of 549 in the same month.
However, the absence of a draw so far this month will result in an even higher CRS cutoff score than we have ever seen in the general round of invitations.
Express Entry Draws CRS trend in 2024
As we speak, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced 17 Express Entry draws in 2024, sending out a total of 35,970 invitations to apply (ITAs).
General draws made up around 40% of the total invitations and Francophile draws made up around 34% of ITAs.
We have seen all the category-based draws in 2024, except for the skilled trades round of invitations.
Immigration Program | No. of Draws | Total Invitations | Average CRS Score | Lowest CRS Score | Highest CRS Score |

What about the upcoming draws?
The upcoming Express Entry draw is most likely to take place around May 28 and will likely start with general draws followed by Francophile or Trades draws.
We have yet to see Trades Targeted draw so far in 2024 and this is the next most anticipated category-based round of invitations.
IRCC declared a two-trade draw in 2023, handing out 2,170 ITAs with a CRS cutoff score of 388 and 425.
This year, we can expect the CRS cutoff score in the trades draw to be around 430+ since a lot of Express Entry candidates in the pool have beefed up their credentials to qualify for the trades category.
In general draws, we might see a new high of a CRS cutoff score around 550+, until or unless IRCC surprises with something big from their arsenal.
The cutoff score will largely depend on the number of invitations so it will be interesting to see how large the upcoming draws will be.
Month | Number of ITAs |
---|---|
January | 3,280 |
February | 16,110 |
March | 7,305 |
April | 9,275 |
If draws resume next week, then it will be the only week of May to see rounds of invitations, and we may see large-sized draws if IRCC decides to make up for this whole month.
Otherwise, the CRS cutoff score is expected to be higher for all the draws, including the one for candidates with high proficiency in French.
Why are Express Entry draws delayed?
There is no confirmed reason why Express Entry draws are delayed, but it is anticipated that IRCC might have halted these draws to keep with the processing of existing inventory.
Another expected reason is that candidates in the pool have until May 27 to update their profiles in accordance with the new proof of funds requirement.
When is the next Express Entry draw?
The IRCC has skipped two biweekly express entry draws and is now expected to announce the next Draw around May 28, 2024.
