What is the ‘Alberta is calling’ new incentive?

The province has created a new incentive to recruit workers to the province.

The newly announced provincial government’s Budget 2024 includes a $10 million allocation for the ‘Alberta is Calling’ Attraction Bonus, which gives employees a $5,000 refundable tax credit.

The administration expects that the new incentive will attract talented trade workers from other provinces.

The one-time incentive will provide a $5,000 refundable tax credit to anyone working in qualified occupations who relocates to the province after the program begins in April 2024 and meets further eligibility requirements.

The qualifications will include working full-time in a specific occupation, filing their 2024 taxes in the province, and residing in the province for at least 12 months.

Another segment of the ‘Alberta is Calling’ campaign will launch later this year.

In 2022, the $2.6 million campaign highlighted the province’s numerous lifestyle and career advantages, including higher earnings, shorter commutes, and job prospects.
