Which Express Entry program got the most ITAs?
In 2021, a greater number and proportion of invitations (87%) were granted under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Furthermore, while the proportion of PNP invitations issued in 2021 (13%) was substantially lower than in 2022, the quantity of invitations issued in both years is comparable.
Program | 2022 | 2021 | 2020 |
CEC | 18,894 | 99,646 | 58,393 |
PNP | 19,258 | 14,778 | 14,208 |

FSTP | 0 | 0 | 11 |
Total | 46,537 | 114,424 | 107,343 |
This pattern reflects the Department’s temporary halt on ITAs due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic-related travel restrictions. In 2022, no invites were granted under the FSTP.
Most Common Primary Occupations Receiving an Invitation in 2022
In 2022, the most popular primary occupations among individuals invited to apply for permanent residency through Express Entry changed significantly from prior years.

What is Express Entry?
Express Entry (EE) is Canada’s flagship application management system for three Federal High Skilled (FHS) permanent economic immigration programs (the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC)) and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). It was launched in January 2015.
In addition to providing a pathway to permanent residence for prospective immigrants currently living abroad, many temporary residents already in Canada transition to permanent residence through EE, with Canada consistently ranking first among countries of residence for individuals who receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
