Today, a new list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants for 2024 has been revealed, offering you the best way to devour your food night outside home.
This list highlights that Toronto had the most restaurants on the list this year, even though Montreal wine bar Mon Lapin took the number 1 rank again in 2024.
As per the official press release, the ranking panel added 20 newcomers to the judging panel, reaching an all-time high of 150 voting judges, given the diversity in the country.
The panel was made up of knowledgeable foodies, food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs, and other food-service workers.
Honestly, I was heartbroken that my favourite local eatery, Bollywoood Burgrill didn’t make it to the list of places where I tasted my best vegetarian burger ever in Canada.
Anyhow, the restaurants were judged based on the entire dining experience, encompassing service, décor, cellar depth, and, above all, food quality.
It is my personal favourite and a must try in Canada, as Bollywoood Burgrill in Etobicoke offer the best customization and quality of food.
In 2023, Toronto had 18 spots on the list. Meanwhile, Montreal had 26 eateries: Vancouver 18, Ottawa 6, Calgary 4, Winnipeg 3, Quebec City 2, and Saskatoon 1.
However, this year 24 are in downtown Toronto, with one each in Oakville and Cambridge in the new list of 100 best restaurants.
Following Mon Lapin, three Toronto restaurants are in the top five: Edulis in second, Alo in third, and 20 Victoria in fourth. Langdon Hall in Cambridge ranks fifth.
Below are the top 5 best restaurants in Canada for 2024
1. MON LAPIN: For the past six years, MON LAPIN has occupied the elusive sweet spot between casual and special occasion restaurants.

Co-owners and chefs Jessica Noël and Marc-Olivier Frappier can create a daily menu based solely on products and producers, allowing for greater creativity.
2. EDULIS: Edulis’ notion of enjoyment includes fully enjoying the experience at your own pace.
It energizes each leisurely Sunday lunch and unhurried dinner, as well as every appealing suggestion to add another indulgence to the already enticing prix fixe — say, white truffles in the fall, black truffles in the winter, and correctly hand-sliced jamón Ibérico all year long.

If you are in Canada, then you must include EDULIS in your itinerary.
3. ALO: When ALO first opened, it aimed to elevate Canadian fine dining with a fresh foreign flair and a new standard of refinement.
And, while that purpose was long past completed, the project’s zeal remains unwavering as Alo nears its tenth anniversary.
A trio of amuse-bouches featuring Petrossian caviar, foie gras, and something raw from the Sea of Japan sets the tone for the pleasures that follow.
4. 20 VICTORIA: This diminutive culinary OASIS in the financial sector began out admirably and continues to improve.
The experience is refined, from the playlist (a nice ’90s party) to the minimalist décor (soft lighting, off-white walls, warm wood) and the uncomplicated service, which is led by the tirelessly amiable proprietor, Chris White.
Above all, the cooking exudes finesse. Chef Julie Hyde has extensive and advanced European training (Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Maison Lameloise, etc.).
And it’s evident in their bold imagination (boudin with romesco, crisp-skinned fish with chicken jus, etc.) and their constantly superb sauces.
5. LANGDON HALL: It’s something of a quest that draws Jason Bangerter out to his kitchen gardens and the surrounding Carolinian woodland to harvest ingredients for his ever-changing dishes at one of Ontario’s most exquisite country estates.

His terroir-driven cuisine, however, is not rigid; for example, a course of panna cotta with house-made buttermilk and fresh citrus is followed by a pairing of East Coast lobster and wild sturgeon caviar.
Sauces and soups are always well assessed. Local artichokes, squash, and onions are meticulously prepared and topped with exotic ingredients like black truffle chips or uni tongues.
