Calgary Stampede History

The Calgary Stampede first took place in 1886. It was the first agricultural fair that the Calgary District and Agricultural Society held. However, at the time there was barely anything in Calgary. It had a CPR station, a Northwest Mounted Police post, and about 1000 people.

So, this Exhibition was an opportunity to share knowledge about practicing agriculture in the West. Also, people could have fun and show the best of the West. Gradually, this Exhibition became an annual event and more and more people started attending it.
