International Experience Canada – IEC 2023 sent out 2,967 invitations to apply (ITAs) for work permits as of October 23, 2023.

Canada has sent out a total of 131,541 work permit invitations under 3 categories during the 2023 IEC season, which started in January 2023.

All the International Experience Canada 2023 season pools are now closed as of October 23, 2023.

However, invited candidates can still complete and submit their work permit applications online.

Important information for IEC 2024 season

Your profile will be deleted from the pool if you have not received an invitation to apply for the 2023 season.

When the pools reopen in 2024, probably at the end of December 2023, you will be able to create a new profile. So start preparing proactively for the next season.

The GCkey account of candidates in the pool for 2023 will still be active at that time so it is not necessary for you to register for a new GCkey or make a new account for IEC 2024 season.

The IEC 2023 season opened up with a set quota of accepting 90,000 newcomers from more than 30 eligible countries during this season, and additional quotas are being added as needed.

More than 130,000 people from eligible countries were invited to the IEC 2023 season among all three categories.

IEC Working Holiday visa category issued the most, with 118,733 open work permit invitations this year.

This is the biggest category in the IEC, with a set quota of 61,770 for youngsters from more than 33 eligible countries for 2023.

8,235 closed work permit invitations were sent under the Young Professionals category this year, while only 4,573 were sent under the least common category, the International Co-op (Internship).

As per the latest IRCC processing update, IEC 2023 season processing time has now increased to 6 weeks.

What is the IEC program in Canada 2023?

International Experience Canada (IEC) is a reciprocal program that lets young people from Canada and more than 30 eligible countries visit and work in each other’s countries.

Under IEC, there are three categories:

1. Working Holiday Visa category: Under this category eligible candidates get an open work permit allowing them to work for any employer to pay for their trips.

2. International Co-op (internship): Students who take part in an International Co-op (internship) get a closed work permit that lets them work for certain companies only in their field of study.

3. Young Professionals category: Participants in Young Professionals get an employer specific work permit that lets them do professional work in their field of study as well as related to their career path.
