Yesterday, we posted that students cannot travel more than 3 weeks prior to starting of their classes. A lot of people had confusion because IRCC tweeted few days back that students can travel 4 weeks prior to their classes. This created a lot of panic among students who already had tickets. Our news was meant to inform new international students coming to Canada, so that they don’t face any difficulty. It was based on what CBSA informed us on a phone call and it seems that it was “INCORRECT”. The reason that we were confident enough that information is true because CBSA has the discretion to deny entry into Canada if they have reasonable grounds. It seems the CBSA agent we contacted didn’t had up-to-date information.

However, we did investigation to find correct and accurate information for students coming for January 2022 intake. We reached out to IRCC via Twitter for confirmation what CBSA informed us. IRCC clearly stated that “In determining a reasonable amount of time, CBSA will use a general guideline of 4 weeks before classes start.” Following this we called CBSA twice and we were surprised to hear totally new information from them. They clearly denied the 3-week requirement and said that requirement was for 4 weeks, which has further changed as per the bulletin they received on November 2. We recorded the calls that are embedded below.

Please hear our calls with CBSA and make your own decision as everyone’s interpretation can be different.

We are unfortunate that you heard this news from our platform, so rather than blaming we take the responsibility and formally apologize for the inconvenience people went through. It takes a lot of courage to acknowledge your mistake, but doing the right thing is what we are committed to. Sometimes being a good Samaritan backfires and it’s difficult for everyone to process. We would like to hear from people who rescheduled their flights based on our news. Please email us with your old and new air ticket at info@immigrationnewscanada.ca so that we can find a way to compensate people affected by our news. Again, we apologize on behalf of INC.
