Canada has now expanded the use of the IRCC Permanent Residence Portal to private refugee sponsor groups as part of ongoing efforts to provide clients with more online options.
Additionally, IRCC will make it available to some government-backed refugee referral partners before the end of 2023.
This was one of the 6 recommendations made by the Office of Auditor General (OAG) report made at the beginning of October 2023.

With this expansion, sponsors can now submit their applications and referrals in a more practical, safe, and effective manner.
By sending their application by email, applicants will avoid the hassles and delays associated with paper applications, and they will get instant confirmation that it was filed successfully.
By preventing the submission of the majority of incomplete applications, online application submissions will help enhance the intake procedure.
Officers of the IRCC will be able to concentrate on advancing finished applications while saving time by doing this.
To assist sponsor groups in making a smooth transition to the portal, IRCC is collaborating closely with the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) and other partners.
In addition to offering training and other services, RSTP has been hosting informational workshops. The IRCC website also has updated instruction manuals.
The deadline for refugee sponsor groups to switch over to the Permanent Residence Portal is December 31, 2023.
IRCC will only accept applications sent via mail or the portal until January 1, 2024.
