Why Is Russia Invading Ukraine? All That You Need To Know!

Russia Invading Ukraine – This war is affecting all of us, so do not ignore it. Ukrainians have been reaching out to us with pictures and video of Putin’s brutality. They have appealed us to share them with international community seeking their support. Click here to see ground level report and media by Ukrainians.

On February 24, 2022 Russian President, Vladimir Putin declared that they could not feel “safe, develop and exist.” He ordered a full-scale invasion from the north, east and south with troops moving in on Ukraine’s capital. He tried to back his decision with false and irrational arguments. Putin claimed his goal was to protect people from genocide and bullying. He said he is aiming to “demilitarisation and de-Nazification” of Ukraine.

However, all of his claims had hidden agenda and his past ambition of including Ukraine back into Russia. Ukraine has been an independent country since the breakdown of Soviet Union. Reality is that there has not been any genocide in Ukraine and it is a proliferating democracy. Current serving president of Ukraine, Volodymr Zelensky is being in news with firm determination of defending his country. He hails from a Jewish family and his family was the victim of holocaust during world war II.

Ukraine President’s Initial Response:

On February 24, Ukraine president addressed citizens of Russia, “The Ukraine on your news and Ukraine in real life are two completely different countries — and the main difference between them is: Ours is real. You are told we are Nazis. But could a people who lost more than 8 million lives in the battle against Nazism support Nazism?”

“How can I be a Nazi? Explain it to my grandfather, who went through the entire war in the infantry of the Soviet army, and died a colonel in an independent Ukraine. What are you fighting for and with whom? Many of you have been to Ukraine. Many of you have family in Ukraine. Some have studied in Ukrainian universities. Some have been friends with Ukrainians. You know our character, our people, our principles. You know what we value. So listen to yourselves. Listen to reason.”

What’s The Real Reason Behind Russia Invading Ukraine?

Ukraine has been trying to join NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and align itself with the European Union. However, Russia is against the decision of Ukraine to join NATO. President, Putin has previously commented, “Russia has nowhere further to retreat to – do they think we’ll just sit idly by?” He has put forward that “West” promised in 1990 that NATO would not expand an inch to the east, but did so anyway. Putin wants NATO to remove its forces and military infrastructure from member states that joined the alliance from 1997. He believes it’s a direct threat for Russia, if Ukraine becomes part of NATO as he is feeling vulnerable to West and Europe.

Russia

This image shows the NATO members after 1997 in close proximity to Russia and number of troops in the region.

However, Ukraine don’t want Russia to make it’s decision or pressurize it as it is an independent democracy and has every right to make their own decisions. It’s the question of Sovereignty and Integrity of their nation. It’s their decision to be in alignment with rest of Europe. Moreover, NATO is also reluctant to add Ukraine into their club, but recently president Zelensky has asked for clear timeline on when they can be the members. Germany’s chancellor has made clear that there is no prospect of Ukraine joining for a long time.

Putin’s idea is to make Ukraine it’s puppet. Even if he wins this war, he is going to keep it separate and establish a leadership that will work on his fingers. This is pure dictatorship with a lot of civilians suffering in Ukraine. President Zelensky has made it clear that they will be defending their country to last breath.

What’s happening now?

As of Sunday, 352 civilians have been killed out of which 14 were children. 1,684 people, including 116 children, have been injured. These number could be more as of today. Maxar Technologies satellite imagery (see below) captured an 11-mile-long Russian convoy approaching Antonov airport, about 17 miles from downtown Kyiv, at 11:00 am local time on February 28. Russia has already been bombing civilians areas of Ukrainian, Capital Kyiv and other urban areas. Ukrainians have been reaching out to us providing ground level pictures and video of Putin’s brutality and atrocities.

Our appeal to our readers is to support Ukrainians in these trying times and also not hate Russians, because it’s Putin’s leadership that is bad not the Russians.
