The new minimum wage in four Canadian provinces, including Ontario, will come into effect on October 1, 2024.

So, we gathered information about each province in Canada, as well as the new minimum wage that will take effect this October.

Regardless of age or number of hours worked, all employees receive the same minimum pay. 

On the other hand, particular provinces might have laws governing the minimum wage for students under the age of 18 or special scenarios.

Below is the summary of new minimum wages in 4 Canadian provinces beginning October 1.

1. Ontario Minimum Wage

According to the province’s announcement on March 27, the new minimum wage in Ontario will be $17.20 per hour as of October 1.

The current minimum wage in Ontario, which is $16.55, went into force on October 1, 2023. On October 1, 2024, Ontario’s general minimum wage will rise to $17.20. 

Additionally, under the age of 18, students who work 28 hours a week or fewer during the school year or during breaks or summer vacations will see a rise in their minimum wage from $15.60 to $16.20 per hour.

Additionally, it will also rise from $18.20 to $18.90 per hour for those who work from home.

2. Manitoba Minimum Wage

Manitoba’s new $15.30 per hour minimum wage will come into effect on October 1.

On October 1, 2024, the minimum wage in Manitoba will rise from $15.30 to $15.80 per hour. Good news for people in Manitoba.

Currently, on October 1st of each year, the government makes annual adjustments based on the provincial CPI.

3. Saskatchewan

Starting on October 1, the new minimum wage in Saskatchewan will be $15 per hour.

The minimum wage in Saskatchewan will rise from $14 to $15.00 per hour on October 1, 2024, according to a government announcement.

Considering the present provincial rates, this is a respectable raise.

4. Prince Edward Island

Starting on October 1, the new minimum wage in Prince Edward Island will be $16 per hour.

On April 1, 2024, the minimum wage of $15.40 went into effect and on October 1, 2024, the hourly wage rates will again rise to $16 per hour.
