The new Canadian passport has recently achieved a global ranking of 6 in the Henley Passport Index, surpassing the United States, which is now ranked number 7.

This significant improvement in passport rank highlights Canada’s strong international standing and reflects the country’s commitment to facilitating global mobility for its citizens.

With this enhanced passport, Canadian travellers can enjoy expanded visa-free access to 186 countries around the world.

Canada unveiled the new passport design in May 2023 with complete redesigning and cutting-edge security measures which is now being rolled out.

The Canadian passport ranked highest at second position on the Henley Index in 2014.

In 2016, however, it fell to sixth place and remained there for four years.

During the pandemic, the passport fell from sixth to 8th and 9th position due to the public health restrictions and border closures.

Now the Canadian passport ranking has regained its pre-pandemic standing at number 6.

Canada allows 13 more countries to visit visa-free

Canada added 13 more countries to list of their visa-free nations on June 6, 2023 that can travel to Canada visa-free or with an eTA.

New countries eligible for visa-free travel to Canada are Panama, Caribbean island states of Antigua and Barbados, St. Kits and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina, Morocco, Seychelles, Thailand, and Philippines.

Canada now allows 66 countries and territories to have travel visa-free, or eTA, access.
