IRCC Minister Makes A New Announcement For Hong Kong Residents

Today, IRCC Minister Hon’ble Sean is making an important announcement for Hong Kong residents in Canada.

Han Dong (MP for Don Valley North), Jean Yip (MP for Scarborough–Agincourt), Dr. Anna Victoria Wong (Executive Director, Community Family Services of Ontario – CFSO) will be joining the Fraser in this announcement.

Below is the today’s new announcement made by IRCC Minister, Hon’ble Sean Fraser regarding continued support for residents of Hong Kong residents.

The open work permit program for qualified Hong Kong residents is being extended and expanded by Canada, as announced today by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.

The minister announced new changes to the Hong Kong special programs by extending the deadline to apply.

For qualified Hong Kong residents, the new deadline for submitting an application for an open work visa is February 7, 2025.

Furthermore, IRCC also announced expanding the eligibility to Hong Kong residents who have completed post-secondary education within the last 10 years. Previously, this was 5 years.

As a result Hong Kong residents can now gain more work experience for up to 3 years.

Spouses, common-law partners, and dependant children may also apply for a study or work visa under Hong Kong’s open work permit public policy.
