Today, Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced a new PR pathway for Canada for citizens of Colombia, Haiti, and Venezuela.
This will be a new humanitarian permanent residence pathway, beginning in fall 2023, welcoming up to 11,000 Colombians, Haitians, and Venezuelans residing in Central or South America or the Caribbean.
However, this pathway will only be for individuals with extended family ties in Canada.
To qualify, the primary applicant must be a child (regardless of age), grandchild, spouse, common-law partner, parent, grandparent, or sibling of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
This is part of Canada’s commitment to welcome 15,000 migrants on a humanitarian basis from the Western Hemisphere during the visit of Joe Biden to Canada in March 2023.
Furthermore, Canada will provide enhanced pre-arrival services to successful applicants, such as an employment skills assessment and a reference to a settlement provider organization in their selected community.
